New Honda City in Malaysia from RM89,900: the warranty runs up to 8 years, and years 6 to 8 cover engine and transmission (September 2026)

The new Honda City starts at RM89,900, and the phrase that comes with that price is “8-year warranty”. On Honda's own website, that phrase comes in two parts.

Honda Malaysia launched the New City on 24 September 2026, and the press release lists on-the-road prices without insurance for four variants: City 1.5L E at RM89,900, City 1.5L V at RM94,900, City 1.5L Petrol RS at RM99,900 and City 1.5L e:HEV RS at RM111,900. The same release says that newly purchased Honda petrol and hybrid models, the New City included, come with an extended warranty of up to 8 years with unlimited mileage, effective from 1 September 2026. That list of prices does not say which part of the country it applies to. The figures for Sabah & Sarawak, Labuan and Langkawi appear only on the official pricing page — and so does the small print that breaks up to 8 years into two.

What stands out

• RM89,900 is where the E variant starts, and Honda's own wording is from. The heading above that table reads On-The-Road Price Without Insurance, with a note that prices are subject to change without prior notice. The model page marks the car From RM 89,900.00, and the site's model menu repeats it under City: From RM 89,900.00.
• The press release says up to 8 years; the pricing page splits that into two parts. The release's wording is an extended warranty of up to 8 years with unlimited mileage, for Honda petrol and hybrid models newly purchased from 1 September 2026, followed by a note that terms and conditions apply. The pricing page's disclaimer sets it out in two separate sentences. The first is a 5-year warranty with unlimited mileage; that sentence does not say what those 5 years cover. The second reads Service-Activated Warranty, 3 years warranty (6th – 8th year) with unlimited mileage for Engine & Transmission, and ends with the same note that terms and conditions apply. Neither page says whether those two passages describe the same arrangement.
• RM89,900 is five numbers added together, and two colours add RM400. The pricing page breaks the peninsular E variant into a selling price of RM89,560 plus one year of road tax at RM90, a registration fee of RM150, a number plate at RM50 and an ownership endorsement fee at RM50. Those four add up to RM340, and all five together come to exactly RM89,900. The other three regional tables are built the same way — a selling price plus the same four charges, at different amounts. On colours, Platinum White Pearl and Blazing Red Pearl cost RM400 more, the same on all four variants; Honda's own description of Blazing Red Pearl is a new colour for the New City. The other two are Meteoroid Gray Metallic and Stellar Diamond Pearl, and Stellar Diamond Pearl is available for petrol variants only.
• Honda SENSING and the blind spot system are standard across the range; the 360-degree camera is limited to the two RS variants. The release leads on three additions: the Blind Spot Information System with Cross Traffic Monitoring, standard across all variants; the 360° Multi-View Camera System, available on the Petrol RS and e:HEV RS; and a Display Audio that grows to 10 inches. Honda SENSING and Honda LaneWatch are standard across the range as well. Outside, Bi-LED headlights are standard on every variant, the RS variants add Long Light Bar Headlights and the wheels are new 16-inch dual-tone milling alloys; inside, there is new ambient lighting with footlight and door-pocket illumination.
• 121 PS for the petrol variants, 253 Nm of maximum torque for the e:HEV RS. The petrol variants use a 1.5L DOHC i-VTEC engine with a continuously variable transmission, producing 121 PS and 145 Nm. The e:HEV RS is the one hybrid among the four variants; the release quotes 253 Nm of maximum torque and gives no PS figure, and that variant also gets a wireless charger.
• 24 years, more than 536,000 units. The release says the City has been on sale in Malaysia for 24 years and that more than 536,000 units have been sold nationwide, with the hybrid variant contributing approximately 22% of the company's total hybrid sales — and the footnote to that figure says it is based on Honda Malaysia's internal data, measured against Honda Malaysia's own hybrid sales. To mark those 24 years, Honda has introduced a Special City Reward Programme offering benefits to the first 2,400 eligible customers, among them new and existing Honda customers, upgraders and government servants.

What the New City costs in Malaysia

The official pricing page carried four regional tabs on 26 September 2026 — Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah & Sarawak, Labuan and Langkawi — each with its own set of figures under the row labelled Retail Price Without Insurance. Nowhere on that page does it say what decides which of the four applies to you, so ask the dealer which table your car falls under before you sign. The pricing page calls the petrol RS column City 1.5L RS, the accessories page marks the Modulo RS Package as applicable to Pet RS and e:HEV RS, and the press release writes City 1.5L Petrol RS — all three names point to the same variant, at RM99,900.

• Peninsular Malaysia: E RM89,900; V RM94,900; RS RM99,900; e:HEV RS RM111,900.
• Sabah & Sarawak: E RM91,900; V RM96,900; RS RM101,900; e:HEV RS RM113,900.
• Labuan: E RM81,300; V RM85,800; RS RM90,100; e:HEV RS RM100,800.
• Langkawi: E RM79,300; V RM83,800; RS RM88,100; e:HEV RS RM98,800.

Set against the peninsular table, Sabah & Sarawak is RM2,000 higher on all four variants, Labuan is between RM8,600 and RM11,100 lower, and Langkawi between RM10,600 and RM13,100 lower.

The four fixed charges add up to RM340 in Peninsular Malaysia — road tax RM90, registration fee RM150, number plate RM50 and ownership endorsement fee RM50 — and to RM232 in Sabah & Sarawak, RM196 in Labuan and RM295 in Langkawi. The registration fee itself changes with whose name the car goes under: register it under a company and the fee is RM500, with road tax doubled in Peninsular Malaysia and Langkawi — a clause the Sabah & Sarawak and Labuan tabs do not carry; register it under a foreigner and the fee is RM350 in Peninsular Malaysia and Langkawi, and RM120 in Sabah & Sarawak and Labuan.

The questions you'll ask first

• What about servicing and the battery warranty? The same disclaimer on the pricing page adds two items: free labour service applicable up to 5 times within 100,000km or 5 years, and a 10-year lithium-ion battery warranty with unlimited mileage. That battery item applies to a hybrid, and the e:HEV RS is the one hybrid of the four variants — the same car for which the press release quotes a 10-year hybrid battery warranty with unlimited mileage.
• How much is the Special City Reward Programme worth, and when does it close? The press release only says the programme offers benefits to the first 2,400 eligible customers. It gives no amount and no closing date. The September promotions page on honda.com.my lists the City Hatchback, Civic, HR-V, CR-V and New WR-V, and does not list the City sedan. Clause 2 of that page states that the Shared Rewards Program does not apply to the Honda City, and clause 8 states that the promotions apply only to vehicles registered between 1 September 2026 and 30 September 2026.
• How much should the car be insured for? The pricing page carries a Sum Insured row: in Peninsular Malaysia, E RM89,000, V RM94,000, RS RM99,000 and e:HEV RS RM111,000. The on-the-road price does not include insurance.
• What do the factory packages cost? The accessories page lists the Modulo Package at RM3,030, marked as applicable to the E and V variants only and made up of front and rear under spoilers and a black emblem set; the Modulo RS Package at RM3,010, for the Petrol RS and e:HEV RS; the Urban Package at RM1,314, with door visors, door handle protectors and LED side step garnishes; the Safety Package at RM1,050, a front and rear dashcam set; Honda CONNECT at RM2,450; and the HMSB Protection Package at RM2,888. The page states that accessory prices include installation and/or painting charges, and adds that 0% Service Tax is chargeable for Accessories installation and painting services, except for service and repair purposes.
• How many variants are there, and is the City Hatchback the same car? The New City comes in four variants: E, V, Petrol RS and e:HEV RS. The City Hatchback is a different model, listed in the official model menu at From RM 85,900.00 — from RM85,900.
• How long is the wait for delivery? Neither the press release nor the model page says.

The rebate figures come from the press, and the two reports contradict each other

There is not a single ringgit figure for the Special City Reward Programme anywhere on Honda's own pages.

• SoyaCincau's report of 24 September 2026 says customers can get up to RM7,000 in rebates through the programme, and lists three items: an Early Bird Booking rebate of RM3,000, which the report says is available until 30 September 2026; a Launch Rebate of RM3,000; and RM1,000 for government servants, H2H, H2H+ and national car owners. The same report says plainly that these details were not mentioned on stage at the launch, and that the amounts come from posts by various Honda sales advisors on social media. It also explains that H2H means existing Honda owners and H2H+ means their parent, spouse or children.
• paultan.org's report of 24 September 2026 says the first 2,400 City buyers will enjoy a RM3,000 rebate applicable to all variants, and presents it as announced at the launch — its wording is At the launch, HMSB announced. That is the opposite of SoyaCincau's account: one says the details were not mentioned on stage, the other says they were announced there. Honda's own pages carry neither version.

Before you sign

• If RM89,900 is the figure in your budget, remember that it is the City 1.5L E's peninsular on-the-road price without insurance: RM89,560 of it is the selling price and RM340 is road tax, registration fee, number plate and ownership endorsement fee. Platinum White Pearl or Blazing Red Pearl adds RM400 on top.
• If the table in front of you is the Sabah & Sarawak, Labuan or Langkawi one, the same E variant is RM91,900, RM81,300 and RM79,300 respectively.
• If a sales advisor mentions the 8-year warranty, ask about years 6 to 8: the pricing page describes that stretch as a Service-Activated Warranty for engine and transmission, and notes that terms and conditions apply.
