MyEG stops handling JPJ transactions, RM314 million not handed over: from 5 October 2026, road tax, licences and summonses move to official channels

Two small things trip people up: whether the signboard at the door says Pos Laju, and whether your insurance covers the road tax period you are applying for. The official rates for road tax and a licence have not changed — what has changed is where you go.

Renewing road tax, renewing a licence, paying a summons: the three errands drivers run most often lost one of their counters at 00:01 on 5 October 2026.

In a statement dated 2 October 2026, JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the services of My E.G. Sdn. Bhd. and Zetrix AI Berhad under the MYEG Group as JPJ collection agents are suspended, and that all JPJ services previously offered through MYEG Group channels are halted from 5 October 2026. At a press conference on 5 October 2026, the transport minister said the two companies had not handed over RM314 million in government revenue collected from 19 May to 30 September 2026. The main points

  • The amount owed is RM314 million in government revenue already collected. The period runs from 19 May to 30 September 2026. At the press conference on 5 October 2026 the transport minister said the decision rested strictly on financial facts: “We look at the facts. The fact is, there is an outstanding amount.” The cut-off is exact: 00:01 on 5 October 2026. The JPJ statement gives 5 October 2026 as the effective date, and the English-language report of the same statement puts the time at 00:01. The Star, 3 October 2026
  • The reason given: terms of the agreement were not complied with, and obligations were left unresolved. The director-general said the decision followed consideration of compliance with the terms and conditions of the agreement, and of obligations the companies concerned have yet to fulfil or resolve.
  • Services only resume after full settlement, and no deadline has been set. The minister said talk of resuming services is premature. Even on settlement, he said, further conditions would be imposed — the companies could still act as a platform, but payment would have to be credited directly into the government account.
  • 20% of motorists still rely on third-party agents. That, the minister said, is why collection agents are still needed for the time being.
  • No longer dependent on just one company. Opening up the market means there are 85 driving institutes where people can sit the theory test directly, the minister said. He also said the MyJPJ app is to get new features, so that most people can deal with JPJ directly. The Star, 5 October 2026

What it costs

The two lists below are as they appear on the JPJ website.

These road tax (LKM) rates are for private saloon cars registered to an individual in Peninsular Malaysia (usage code AB, petrol, diesel or green diesel). Private vehicles that are not saloon cars, whether registered to an individual or a company, come under a different list of rates in the same PDF (usage codes AD and AE), not this one — what counts as a saloon follows the usage code JPJ has registered for the vehicle. At 1600cc and below the rate is fixed (checked on 5 October 2026):

  • 1000cc and below: RM20.00
  • 1001cc to 1200cc: RM55.00
  • 1201cc to 1400cc: RM70.00
  • 1401cc to 1600cc: RM90.00

Above 1600cc there are five bands. In each of them you pay a base rate plus a progressive rate, so two cars in the same band can end up paying different amounts:

  • 1601cc to 1800cc: a base rate of RM200.00, plus RM0.40 for every cc above 1600cc
  • 1801cc to 2000cc: a base rate of RM280.00, plus RM0.50 for every cc above 1800cc
  • 2001cc to 2500cc: a base rate of RM380.00, plus RM1.00 for every cc above 2000cc
  • 2501cc to 3000cc: a base rate of RM880.00, plus RM2.50 for every cc above 2500cc
  • Above 3000cc: a base rate of RM2,130.00, plus RM4.50 for every cc above 3000cc

Renewing a competent driving licence (CDL) for one year costs this much, by class and by citizenship (checked on 5 October 2026):

  • Class A and A1: RM2.00 a year for citizens
  • Class B2 (single), B and C: RM20.00 a year for citizens, RM60.00 for non-citizens
  • Classes D, E, F, G, H and I: RM30.00 a year for citizens, RM60.00 for non-citizens

A car licence falls in the D/E/F/G/H/I band: RM30.00 a year for citizens. The JPJ fee table

Neither the JPJ fee page nor the Pos Malaysia page for JPJ services says whether a counter or a post office charges anything extra on top, or how much.

What readers ask most

  • I booked a KPP01 test through a MYEG channel before 5 October 2026 — is it still valid? It is. The director-general's statement says computerised highway code tests (KPP01) booked through MYEG channels before the effective date remain valid and may proceed as usual.
  • And new bookings? From 5 October 2026, you book and sit the test at the KPP test centres at driving institutes nationwide. The minister said there are 85 driving institutes where people can sit the test directly.
  • I paid through MYEG and the transaction was never completed. What happens to the money? Official sources don't say. Neither the JPJ statement, nor the minister's press conference of 5 October 2026, nor the company's filing mentions how paid-but-incomplete transactions are handled, or refunds.
  • How long will the suspension last? No deadline has been set. The minister said only that it is premature to discuss resumption and that full settlement is a strict, non-negotiable precondition.
  • What does the company itself say? In a filing made after a news report and the JPJ notice dated 2 October 2026, Zetrix AI confirmed to the stock exchange that its Road Transport Department services are temporarily suspended from 5 October 2026. The company said it is in discussion to resolve the issues and will announce any material development as and when appropriate. The Star Business, 5 October 2026
  • What about immigration and other agencies? This JPJ statement covers JPJ services only; it says nothing about services run by other agencies.

Reported, but not announced

  • The RM200 million figure comes from The Straits Times. The Edge Malaysia, on 2 October 2026, cited the Singapore paper as reporting that Zetrix AI owes JPJ more than RM200 million. The figure the transport minister gave is RM314 million; the two do not match. The Edge Malaysia
  • The three-year contract starting in May 2023 comes from that same report. Public statements by JPJ and the transport ministry do not give a start month for the contract.
  • A newspaper report said the arrears had built up over three years; the transport minister denied that. At the press conference on 5 October 2026 he said there had been occasional delays before, but MYEG settled the arrears after reminders; the RM314 million outstanding covers 19 May to 30 September 2026, not three years. What he denied was that the arrears had built up over three years — he did not address the start month of the contract. Bernama, 5 October 2026
  • The trading halt and the last traded price come from The Star Business. Its report of 5 October 2026 says the exchange halted trading in the share from 09:00 to 10:00 on 5 October 2026, and that the share last traded at 11.5 sen on 2 October 2026.

Where to go instead

  • Official channels. The director-general assured the public that JPJ services continue as usual, and listed these, among others: JPJ counters and kiosks, the MyJPJ app, post offices and JPJ mobile counters. He advised the public to use official channels so that transactions go through smoothly and securely.
  • Post offices. The Pos Malaysia page for JPJ services says road tax renewals and driving licence renewals are handled at 660 post offices nationwide, except Pos Laju outlets and authorised agents. Bring your IC and your latest driving licence. Road tax already expired? The same page says to visit the nearest Pos Malaysia outlet and it will be renewed on the spot. Pos Malaysia's JPJ page
  • The MyJPJ app. The MyJPJ page on the JPJ website lists three official places to download it: the App Store, Google Play and Huawei AppGallery. JPJ's MyJPJ page
  • Road tax at a JPJ counter. The JPJ guide to road tax renewal says the application may be submitted by the registered owner or a representative at any state JPJ office, branch office or UTC, and that one of the documents required is the IC of the registered owner, or of the representative who turns up in their place. JPJ's road tax renewal guide
  • New KPP01 bookings. Book and sit the test at the KPP test centres at driving institutes across the country.
  • Non-citizens paying summonses at the Malaysia–Singapore border. They can do so at the JPJ mobile unit at Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar (KSAB) and Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) in Johor, open 08:00 to 22:00.

Before you go

  • If you are renewing road tax, the vehicle must have insurance cover for the road tax period applied for — one of the conditions listed in the JPJ guide. At a counter, bring the IC of the registered owner, or of whoever is going in their place.
  • If you are going to a post office, bring your IC and your latest driving licence. Check the signboard: Pos Laju outlets and authorised agents don't handle these two services.
  • If you booked a KPP01 test through a MYEG channel before 5 October 2026, your slot is still valid, so turn up as planned. For a new booking from 5 October 2026, go to the KPP test centres at driving institutes across the country.
