Mazda CX-5 2026 Malaysia: from RM166,900, and RM3,000 for a pane of glass

Where you register changes what you pay: on the East Malaysia price list, both versions are RM2,387.30 higher on the road, excluding insurance — even though a year's road tax there is RM372.70 lower. Register in a company name and the Peninsular on-the-road price goes up another RM200.

One car, two prices in the local headlines: RM171,510 and RM169,900.

On 8 October 2026, Mazda Malaysia's official model page listed the All New Mazda CX-5 in two versions: 2.5 High from RM166,900, and 2.5 High with a panoramic sunroof from RM169,900. On the official Peninsular Malaysia price list, registered in a private name and excluding insurance, the on-the-road price is RM171,510.40 with the sunroof and RM168,510.40 without it. Both of those headline figures are on the official price list. They are quoted on two different bases: RM169,900 is the selling price, while RM171,510.40 is the on-the-road price for that same version in Peninsular Malaysia, registered in a private name, excluding insurance. The reports covered the sunroof version; the official price list carries both versions.

What stands out

  • The RM3,000 extra buys that pane of glass. The official spec sheet has two columns, KLDB RBB and KLDD RAA, and only one equipment line differs: Power Sunroof with Sliding & Tilt Glass, which shows a dash in the no-sunroof column and “Panoramic” in the other. Engine, tyres, seats, audio and safety features match line for line. The spec sheet itself is dated 22 August 2026.
  • The on-the-road gap is the same RM3,000 as the selling-price gap. Peninsular Malaysia, private name, excluding insurance: RM168,510.40 without the sunroof and RM171,510.40 with it. Everything else on the list is identical on both: number plates at RM80, the handling and inspection fee at RM350, a year's road tax at RM830.40, the registration fee at RM300 and the ownership claim fee at RM50.
  • One engine only. The spec sheet lists a SKYACTIV®-G 2.5L petrol engine, 2,488 cc, 185 hp / 6,000 rpm, 257 Nm / 4,000 rpm, a six-speed automatic (6-Speed EAT), two-wheel drive and a 56-litre tank. No hybrid or diesel is listed.
  • The cabin is identical on both. Both get a 10.25-inch digital cluster, a 12.9-inch touchscreen, wireless CarPlay and Android Auto (the spec sheet notes Android Auto arrives once the service officially launches in Malaysia), 12 BOSE speakers, a 360-degree view monitor, a power tailgate, ventilated front seats, a 10-way powered driver's seat with memory, and 40:20:40 split-folding rear seats.

  • Size and weight. 4,690 mm long, 1,860 mm wide and 1,695 mm tall, with a 2,815 mm wheelbase, 200 mm of ground clearance and 225/55 R19 tyres. Kerb weight is 1,683 kg with the sunroof and 1,654 kg without it — the one other line on which the two columns differ, and that is weight, not equipment.
  • Five years' free maintenance and a five-year warranty. The price list reads “5 Years Free Maintenance” and “5 Years Manufacturer Warranty”, both for 5 years or 100,000 km, whichever comes first; a note in the corner of the list adds that maintenance covers labour, parts and lubricants.
  • Fully imported from Japan. The price list says “** Fully Import From JAPAN” and that the selling price includes import duty, sales tax, standard accessories and ACTIV-e Film. The same list adds that selling prices and specifications may change without prior notice.

Malaysian prices

The figures come from Mazda Malaysia's official price lists, last checked on 8 October 2026. There is one list for Peninsular Malaysia and one for East Malaysia, two pages each. The sunroof page carries an effective date of 1 September 2026; the page without the sunroof carries 6 October 2026.

On all four pages the price row itself is headed “Selling Price”. Only the pages without the sunroof put “Estimated Selling Price” in the footnotes — on the Peninsular page in the note about import duty and sales tax only, on the East Malaysia page in both notes. In other words, as of 8 October 2026 the official notes call the no-sunroof price an estimate, so for that version go by the price list the showroom hands you on the day.

  • Peninsular Malaysia, private name, excluding insurance: RM168,510.40 on the road without the panoramic sunroof (selling price from RM166,900); RM171,510.40 with it (selling price from RM169,900).
  • Peninsular Malaysia, company name, excluding insurance: RM168,710.40 without the panoramic sunroof and RM171,710.40 with it. The only difference between the two is the registration fee — RM300 for a private name, RM500 for a company — so both on-the-road prices are RM200 higher.
  • East Malaysia, excluding insurance: RM170,897.70 on the road without the panoramic sunroof (East Malaysia selling price RM169,900 — note this is the no-sunroof price here, while RM169,900 in Peninsular Malaysia is the sunroof version); RM173,897.70 with it (East Malaysia selling price RM172,900). Both versions are RM2,387.30 above their Peninsular equivalents. On the East Malaysia list, you pay the same whether you register in a private name or a company name.
  • What the on-the-road price, excluding insurance, covers: the selling price, plus number plates at RM80, a handling and inspection fee of RM350 and an ownership claim fee of RM50, then a year's road tax and the registration fee — the last two change with the region and the name you register in. A year's road tax is RM830.40 in Peninsular Malaysia and RM457.70 in East Malaysia, RM372.70 apart. In Peninsular Malaysia the registration fee is RM300 for a private name and RM500 for a company, or RM600 for a non-Malaysian citizen. In East Malaysia it is RM60, or RM120 for a non-Malaysian citizen.
  • Insurance is not in any of these figures: the official price lists exclude insurance and give only a recommended sum insured — in Peninsular Malaysia, RM170,000 with the sunroof and RM167,000 without it; in East Malaysia, RM173,000 with the sunroof and RM170,000 without it. The lists tell buyers to ask a sales executive about premiums and optional coverage.

Questions readers ask

  • Why don't the media figures agree? Both are on the official price list, on different bases: RM169,900 is the selling price of the panoramic-sunroof version, and RM171,510.40 is that same version's on-the-road price in Peninsular Malaysia, registered in a private name, excluding insurance.
  • What do you give up to save the RM3,000? The panoramic sunroof. On the official spec sheet, that is the only equipment line on which the two versions differ.
  • How much more is East Malaysia? RM2,387.30 more on the road, excluding insurance, and the same for both versions. The selling price there is RM3,000 higher — a different RM3,000 from the sunroof's — but a year's road tax is RM457.70 against RM830.40 in Peninsular Malaysia, and the registration fee is RM60 against RM300 for a private name. That is why the on-the-road gap comes to less than RM3,000.
  • Is it more expensive than the outgoing car? Against the outgoing 2.5G HIGH — the one with the same 2.5-litre naturally aspirated engine and the same two-wheel drive — it is RM3,500 more: the 2.5G HIGH starts from RM163,400 and the new version without the sunroof from RM166,900. For context, Mazda's site still lists all five versions of the outgoing car, with selling prices from RM134,300; the priciest, the 2.5G TURBO, from RM177,200, which is RM7,300 above the new sunroof version, which starts at RM169,900.
  • Instalments, delivery, offers? Neither the model page nor the price lists mention order numbers, delivery times, instalment plans or offers, and neither says which of the two versions reaches buyers first.
  • A hybrid, or local assembly? The official spec sheet lists only the 2.5-litre petrol engine. Neither the model page, the price lists, the spec sheet nor the brochure says whether the third-generation car will switch to local assembly (CKD).

The launch date: media only, no official word

Mazda Malaysia's website, its news and events page and the official brochure give no launch date for the All New CX-5 in Malaysia. The only official dates are the effective dates on the price lists: 1 September 2026 for the sunroof page and 6 October 2026 for the other one. The rest of this section is media reporting, not official information:

  • paultan.org, in a report dated 8 October 2026, ran the headline “2026 Mazda CX-5 launched in Malaysia”, and the site puts the Malaysian launch on that date. paultan.org
  • A second paultan.org report, dated 7 October 2026, is headlined “2026 Mazda CX-5 priced at RM171,510 OTR in Malaysia”. paultan.org
  • bigwheels.my, on 8 October 2026, ran “All-New 2026 Mazda CX-5 Unveiled in Malaysia from RM171,510” and said Bermaz Motor “has officially launched” the car without naming a date; the piece quotes one price, RM171,510.40, without saying on what basis, and names one version, “2.5G 2WD High”. bigwheels.my
  • dsf.my ran the headline “2026 Model MAZDA CX-5 3rd Generation Is Here At RM169,900 Only And Fully Imported”. dsf.my

Where to buy

Before you sign

  • If you're budgeting on the on-the-road price in Peninsular Malaysia, registered in a private name and excluding insurance, it comes to RM168,510.40 without the sunroof or RM171,510.40 with it. Either figure already covers a year's road tax of RM830.40, but not insurance — and the official notes call the no-sunroof selling price an estimate, so check it again against the price list the showroom hands you.
  • If you register in a company name, both Peninsular Malaysia on-the-road prices are RM200 higher, because the registration fee goes from RM300 to RM500.
  • If you're registering in East Malaysia, work from the East Malaysia list instead: RM170,897.70 without the sunroof or RM173,897.70 with it, excluding insurance.
  • If the panoramic sunroof means nothing to you, the version without it is RM3,000 less, and the rest of the official spec sheet's equipment lines match line for line.
  • If you're comparing with the outgoing car, the old 2.5G HIGH sells from RM163,400, which is RM3,500 below the new version without the sunroof, which starts at RM166,900 — but these are two different generations.
