Proton S70 Lite at RM56,800 (September 2026): the peninsular price after the RM3,000 rebate, list price RM59,800
Eight figures on the official list, and RM59,800 is the one that catches people out: on the list-price table it is the Lite on the peninsula, on the after-rebate table it is the Prime. Ask which variant you are being quoted, then ask whether the rebate has already come off.

A C-segment saloon for RM56,800 — that price is Proton's own, and it comes with conditions attached.
PROTON launched the 2026 S70 Lite and Prime on 22 September 2026, with prices from RM56,800 in the official press release. The same release puts the list prices without insurance at RM59,800 for the 1.5 Lite on the peninsula and RM62,800 for the 1.5 Prime, and says a customer has to both book and register the car by 31 December 2026 to qualify for the RM3,000 early bird reward. PROTON press release
In other words: RM56,800 is not a list price. It is the 1.5 Lite's peninsular price with the RM3,000 already taken off. Book without registering, or let the registration slip past that date, and a different figure applies.

What stands out
- RM56,800 is the 1.5 Lite's peninsular price with RM3,000 off; the same car's list price is RM59,800. The press release sets the money out in two tables: one of list prices without insurance (Proton's wording is on-the-road prices without insurance), one of prices after the RM3,000 rebate. The 1.5 Lite is RM59,800 on the peninsula before the rebate and RM56,800 after. The 1.5 Prime is RM62,800 before and RM59,800 after — the same figure as the 1.5 Lite's peninsular list price.
- To get the RM3,000, you have to book and register by 31 December 2026. Proton's wording is that customers who complete both the booking and the registration by that date qualify for the early bird reward. The release does not say whether the rebate carries on after that.
- The same RM59,800 covers two different cars. On the list-price table it is the 1.5 Lite on the peninsula; on the table of prices after the RM3,000 rebate it is the 1.5 Prime on the peninsula. Check the variant on the quotation first, then work out which of the two tables the figure came from.
- Both variants share one naturally aspirated engine. Proton describes an i-GT 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine paired with a CVT with a torque converter. The model page puts it at 120 PS and 150 Nm with an 8-speed CVT, and lists Sport, Eco and Comfort driving modes. On safety, the release lists six airbags, front and rear parking sensors and the Rear Side Radar System, noting that equipment varies by variant; what both variants get as standard is a reverse camera and a Rear Seat Reminder. There are five body colours: Quartz Black, Marine Blue, Space Grey, Snow White and Armour Silver. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are listed as available from October 2026.
- More than 10,000 bookings in two weeks. The release says order books opened on 7 September 2026, and that the two variants took more than 10,000 bookings in the two weeks that followed. Average monthly sales across the whole S70 range in 2026 are given as more than 2,500 units. On cabin space and rear passenger shoulder room, Proton's own word is class-leading — that is Proton describing its own car.
- On the buying side, four Pro- packages — the same four printed on the launch backdrop. Pro-Warranty is a 5-year unlimited-mileage warranty plus six services with free labour. Pro-Finance, for eligible customers, offers financing of up to 9 years at interest rates from 2.35% per annum, subject to financing approval and applicable terms. Pro-Trade-In gives overtrade support of up to RM2,000. Pro-Shield is the insurance one, which Proton files under optional cover: the upgraded protection listed under it includes enhanced flood relief of up to RM2,000 and passenger personal accident cover of up to RM15,000 per person, for up to four passengers.
- On the servicing side, two more. Fast Service covers scheduled basic maintenance on the Lite and Prime. Under 1-Day Service Delivery, cars are scheduled to be returned within 24 hours; if repairs run past three working days, the outlet provides a relief car and a one-off service with parts and labour covered. With the four above, that makes six named items under the five subheadings of the release's ownership and after-sales section.
What the S70 costs in Malaysia
All eight figures below come from the official press release of 22 September 2026. The first table carries Proton's own heading, on-the-road prices without insurance. The second is headed Prices after the RM3,000 rebate for early bird reward — the reward that needs the booking and the registration done by 31 December 2026 — and that heading does not repeat the words without insurance. Proton gives just two columns, labelled Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia.
List prices, before the rebate
- 1.5 Lite: peninsula RM59,800; East Malaysia RM61,800.
- 1.5 Prime: peninsula RM62,800; East Malaysia RM64,800.
Prices after the RM3,000 rebate
- 1.5 Lite: peninsula RM56,800; East Malaysia RM58,800.
- 1.5 Prime: peninsula RM59,800; East Malaysia RM61,800.
Three gaps stay the same right across the table: East Malaysia is RM2,000 more than the peninsula on all four figures, the Prime is RM3,000 more than the Lite in each column, and the rebate itself is RM3,000 at every price point. Those last two gaps are the same size, and that is why RM59,800 and RM61,800 each carry two meanings: the Prime after the rebate lands on the Lite's list price.
Neither table mentions road tax or registration fees. There is no separate price for Labuan or Langkawi either — Proton lists the peninsula and East Malaysia, nothing else.

The questions you'll ask first
- What exactly does the RM3,000 rebate depend on? The press release states that customers who complete both the booking and the registration by 31 December 2026 qualify for the early bird reward. Both steps count: a booking on its own is not enough, and neither is a registration that only goes through after that date.
- What separates the Lite from the Prime? RM3,000 — the same RM3,000 whether you read the list prices or the prices after the rebate. On equipment, the colour page of Proton's brochure says the 1.5 Prime has Leatherette Seats and the 1.5 Lite has Fabric Seats. Beyond that, the release says only that equipment varies by variant, without listing what, and the model page runs through the features without marking which variant gets what. The line-by-line comparison is in the brochure: page 2 is a specification and equipment table with all five S70 variants side by side, the 1.5 Lite and 1.5 Prime in columns of their own. We have not transcribed it item by item, because its columns cannot be lined up reliably from the PDF; to compare equipment, open the brochure at that page.
- What are the official figures for the car itself? In the brochure's specification table, the engine entries for the two naturally aspirated variants read: 120 PS of maximum output and 150 Nm / 4000 rpm of maximum torque, port fuel injection and an 8-speed CVT. The following each appear as a single figure across that five-variant table: a displacement of 1,499 cc, a body measuring 4,602 × 1,809 × 1,466 mm on a 2,627 mm wheelbase, a 500-litre boot, a 50-litre fuel tank, a minimum turning radius of 5.1 m, and MacPherson strut and torsion beam suspension.
- How much more is the turbo? Proton's range page lists the S70 as two models side by side: the i-GT 1.5, which is the Lite and Prime here, and the i-GT 1.5TD. The turbo's model page gives a starting price of RM79,800, 181 PS and 290 Nm, and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. That is RM23,000 above the 1.5 Lite's peninsular price after the rebate (RM56,800), and RM20,000 above the 1.5 Lite's peninsular list price (RM59,800). The turbo's page labels RM79,800 only as a starting price and says nothing about region, insurance or any rebate, so both gaps are no more than the distance between two listed figures.
- And against the Persona? In the MODELS drop-down on Proton's site, the S70 carries a starting price of RM56,800 and the Persona RM47,800 — a difference of RM9,000. That drop-down gives no region for either figure and does not say whether a rebate is included, so read it as nothing more than where the two sit on one list.
- Is the model page's introductory price the same as the price after the rebate? On the model page, RM56,800 carries the note Introductory On-The-Road Price without Insurance. In the press release the same figure is the 1.5 Lite's peninsular price after the RM3,000 early bird rebate, which needs the booking and the registration done by 31 December 2026. Both pages land on RM56,800, but neither one says whether the introductory price and the rebated price are one and the same. Worth asking at the outlet before you sign.
- How long is the wait for delivery? Neither the press release nor the model page says. What you can work out for yourself is the monthly instalment, on Proton's loan calculator.
The other Proton story that week
On 21 September 2026 Proton put out a second release: it has officially launched its own car financing company, Proton Capital Sdn Bhd. PROTON press release
- It starts at 12 participating outlets in the Klang Valley, and 10 dealership groups have been formally authorised.
- For applications that are complete and straightforward, Proton Capital aims to give an initial decision within one working day.
- There is no fee for submitting a financing application.
- A Shariah-compliant financing option is targeted for early November, subject to product availability.
- The customer line is 03-5888 1668.
Proton Capital and the Pro-Finance package above are two different things: the release does not say that Pro-Finance comes from Proton Capital. It gives no date for Proton Capital moving beyond the Klang Valley either.

Before you sign
- If you are budgeting on RM56,800, remember that it is the 1.5 Lite's peninsular price with RM3,000 already off: the list price for that car is RM59,800, and both the booking and the registration have to be done by 31 December 2026.
- If you are buying in East Malaysia, add RM2,000 to the budget: the list prices there are RM61,800 for the 1.5 Lite and RM64,800 for the 1.5 Prime, and after the rebate RM58,800 for the 1.5 Lite and RM61,800 for the 1.5 Prime. The same trap is waiting there: RM61,800 is the 1.5 Lite's East Malaysia list price, and it is also the 1.5 Prime's East Malaysia price after the rebate.
- If a salesperson quotes you RM59,800, ask which variant it is: on the list-price table that figure is the 1.5 Lite on the peninsula, and on the table of prices after the rebate it is the 1.5 Prime on the peninsula.
Every corner, everywhere.
