Grab adds booster seats for children aged 4 to 12: RM10 per booking on a Standard 6-Seater, KLIA advance bookings only
Grab groups the launch with its other safety features, AudioProtect and Women-Only Rides (Beta). From there the rollout moves in phases to the rest of the Klang Valley, then Penang and Johor Bahru — but the statement gives no start date for any of them.
You walk out of KLIA with a pile of luggage and a primary school kid in tow. The booster seat is the hard part: bringing your own along is a hassle, and going without one doesn't feel right either.
On 30 September 2026, in Petaling Jaya, Grab Malaysia launched Kid-Friendly Rides (Beta): families with children aged 4 to 12 can book a ride that comes with a dedicated booster seat, on either a Standard 6-Seater or a Grab EV Exec. Grab Malaysia newsroom
The two details that matter most come further down the statement: on a Standard 6-Seater, one booster seat costs RM10 per booking; and as of 30 September 2026 the feature is available only on airport rides to and from KLIA 1/KLIA 2, and only through Advance Booking.
What stands out
- One age group only: 4 to 12. Grab says the feature is for families with children aged 4 to 12, and that it follows the safety guidelines of the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS).
- One seat per ride, on a limited fleet. The statement says a Standard 6-Seater offers “one dedicated booster seat”. The seats come from Koopers and are fitted in a limited fleet of cars.
- The drivers have been trained for it. Grab says these rides are handled by driver-partners — Grab's own term for the drivers on its platform — who are trained to manage the use of child seats.
- Child restraints have been compulsory in Malaysia since 1 January 2020, and Grab says take-up is still low. That is the backdrop Grab gives for the launch.
- The 45% figure for ages 4 to 8 comes from the MIROS Director-General. Siti Zaharah Binti Ishak, Director-General of MIROS, says research has found that booster seats cut injury risk by 45% for children aged 4 to 8 compared with seat belts alone (the feature is open to ages 4 to 12, while the figure covers 4 to 8 only; the statement does not say which piece of research it is).
- Pick the right seat, and fit it right. MIROS says a restraint should suit the child's size and be installed correctly.
What it costs in Malaysia
Here is how the Grab Malaysia newsroom page put it on 30 September 2026:
- Standard 6-Seater: an RM10 add-on per booking gets you one booster seat, for a child aged 4 to 12.
- Grab EV Exec: the Koopers Boost Fix booster seat, which Grab describes as an added feature offered free of charge.
- The statement does not say whether the RM10 includes tax, how cancellations are handled, or what a Grab EV Exec ride itself costs.
Common questions
- How do you book one? In the Grab app, tap “Car”, then the “Advance Booking” tile, and set your pick-up time. Once you have keyed in the airport as the pick-up or drop-off point, you can select the feature under Standard 6-Seater or Grab EV Exec.
- Does the way back count too? It does. The statement covers rides to and from KLIA 1/KLIA 2, so the ride out to the airport and the ride home are both covered; as of 30 September 2026 both have to go through Advance Booking.
- Does Grab EV Exec cost RM10 as well? No. Grab says the Koopers Boost Fix seat on a Grab EV Exec is offered free of charge; the RM10 per booking applies to the Standard 6-Seater.
- Who fits the seat? Grab says these rides are driven by drivers trained to manage the use of child seats, and MIROS says a restraint should suit the child's size and be installed correctly. The statement does not say who actually fits it on the day.
- What the statement leaves out. How many cars are in the fleet, what children under four should use, whether one booking can take a second seat, when the Beta ends, and whether the RM10 includes tax — none of it is in Grab's statement of 30 September 2026.

- As of 30 September 2026: airport rides with one end at KLIA 1 or KLIA 2, booked through Advance Booking.
- After that, in the order Grab gives: in progressive phases across the wider Klang Valley, then Penang and Johor Bahru. The statement gives no dates for any of them.
- When you pick the vehicle, look at two tiers — Standard 6-Seater and Grab EV Exec. The booster seat option sits under those two.

Before you book
- The feature only works if your child is aged 4 to 12 and one end of the trip is KLIA 1 or KLIA 2. Anything outside that, and you'll have to make your own arrangements.
- If two children in the family need a booster, have a backup plan ready: Grab's wording is one seat per booking.
- If you're booking a Standard 6-Seater, budget an extra RM10. On a Grab EV Exec, Grab says the seat is offered free of charge — but the two tiers do not cost the same to ride, and the statement gives no fare for a Grab EV Exec.
