KL Marathon 2026: 30 roads shut on Sunday, and Dataran Merdeka shuts first at 20:00 on 2 October

The stretch of Jalan Raja outside Dataran Merdeka goes behind barriers at 20:00 on 2 October 2026 — a whole night before the first runners are flagged off on Saturday. The Standard Chartered Kuala Lumpur Marathon 2026 takes place on 3–4 October 2026, and the organiser says the start and finish line for all categories is at Dataran Merdeka. For anyone who is not running, the two documents that matter are the official road-closure flyers: 11 roads on Saturday, 30 on Sunday, with Lebuh Raya AKLEH, Jalan Lingkaran Tengah 2 (MRR2) and Lebuh Raya DUKE northbound all on the list. What to know

• The Sunday list runs to 30 entries, and the earliest of them shuts at 20:00 on 2 October: entry number 1 is Jalan Raja / Dataran Merdeka, closing at 20:00 on 2 October 2026, with the reopening time printed as "12.01 pagi (5 Okt 2025)" — 00:01 in 24-hour terms, and the year in that field is printed as 2025. Which means the stretch outside Dataran Merdeka goes behind barriers at 20:00 on 2 October, and the reopening date the organiser prints does not match the 2026 race weekend; as of 29 September 2026 there is no correction on the official page. If your way through town runs past the square, write it off for both days. On the closing side: most of the list closes at 03:00 on 4 October; Jalan TAR / Jalan Tun Perak, Lebuh Raya AKLEH, Jalan Lingkaran Tengah 2 (MRR2) and Lebuh Raya DUKE northbound close at 23:00 on 3 October; the Jalan Kuching group closes at 05:00 on 4 October. • City-centre junctions: handed back in batches between 06:30 and 09:30: one thing to get straight first — the official flyer lists whole roads and junctions separately. The whole of Jalan Sultan Ismail both ways is handed back at 06:30, but its junctions with Jalan P. Ramlee, Jalan Perak and Jalan Bukit Bintang carry times of their own, the latest of them 08:30; its junctions with Jalan TAR and Jalan Raja Laut only reopen at 09:30. Entry number 2 does not line up: Bulatan Dato Onn to Jalan Raja Laut sits on the Sunday flyer, but its closing field reads 03:00 with the date 3 October, while the reopening is 09:30 on 4 October.
• The last batch: nothing back before 11:00: Lebuh Raya AKLEH both ways, Jalan Lingkaran Tengah 2 (MRR2) and Lebuh Raya DUKE northbound / Jalan Duta are all closed from 23:00 on 3 October to 11:00 on 4 October; Jalan Kuching (from the Selayang direction), Bulatan Segambut and Jalan Tun Razak / Jalan Kuching (PWTC) close at 05:00 and reopen at 11:00; Jalan Kinabalu / Bulatan Dato Onn closes at 03:00 and reopens at 11:00.
• Only 11 roads on Saturday, and all on the same timing: closed at 05:00, open at 10:00: Jalan Raja, Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Dang Wangi, Jalan Munshi Abdullah, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan P. • The trains the organiser pays for: from 04:00 on Saturday, from 01:45 on Sunday: the organiser, Dirigo Events, says it is sponsoring public transportation on 3 and 4 October 2026 for all KLSCM 2026 runners, and the organiser says the LRT and MRT are complimentary from 04:00 to 06:00 on Saturday and from 01:45 to 06:00 on Sunday, with normal operations and standard charges after that. Selected stations only: selected LRT stations on the Ampang, Sri Petaling and Kelana Jaya lines, at intervals of 15 minutes, and selected MRT stations on the Kajang and Putrajaya lines, at intervals of 20 minutes. • Race pack collection stops on 3 October, and the same page carries two closing times: the organiser gives 11:00 to 21:00 on 1 and 2 October for all categories, and 10:00 to 19:00 on 3 October for the Full Marathon and ASICS Half Marathon categories only, at MITEC Hall 8, Level 2. Further down that same page, the Important Notes say packs not collected after 18:00 on the last collection date will be deemed unwanted and the organiser may dispose of or redistribute them — so 19:00 and 18:00 both sit on one page. • Both days' flag-off times: the earlier the gun, the earlier the roads shut: four categories are flagged off together at 06:00 on Saturday — IHH 10km Speed, Cruise and Leisure plus the 10km Corporate Challenge, which the organiser says is open to Malaysian companies only; the 5km Fun Run is flagged off at 07:45, with two Kids Dash waves at 10:00 and two more at 10:20. On Sunday the Full Marathon gun is at 03:30 and the ASICS Half Marathon at 04:45, each preceded by race technical and safety announcements (03:15 and 04:30), and the organiser recommends being at your own start area at least 20 minutes before your flag-off time. Cut-off times are all based off the gun time: the Full Marathon closes at 10:45, the ASICS Half Marathon at 08:45 and the IHH 10km at 08:00. Tips

• What to bring, and who may collect for you: the organiser asks for your e-confirmation slip with QR code plus your IC or passport. An appointed representative can collect up to a maximum of three (3) race entry packs including their own, if they are a registered runner themselves. If you opted for the mailing service, the organiser says it should arrive not later than three (3) days before your race day. Race entry packs cannot be collected at the event venue.
• The timings can move: the foot of the official schedule page says all schedules are subject to change, so open that page again before you leave the house.
• One number for road-closure questions: both official flyers print the Gerakan Trafik hotline, +603 2071 9999.
• Don't read the intervals as waiting times: the organiser gives intervals of 15 minutes at selected LRT stations and 20 minutes at selected MRT stations. You may park at stations with Park N' Ride facilities, and the organiser says parking fees may apply.
• The official closures page hands you a Waze event page: that page carries a single line of text, "Click here to get the Waze traffic info for KLSCM 2026", linking out to Waze's KLSCM 2026 event page; the two flyers sit below that line.

Before you set off

• If you need Lebuh Raya AKLEH, Jalan Lingkaran Tengah 2 (MRR2) or Lebuh Raya DUKE northbound / Jalan Duta on the morning of 4 October: the official flyer closes all three from 23:00 on 3 October to 11:00 on 4 October, so drive the car home the evening before and count all three out until 11:00 on 4 October
• If you plan to use the small-hours trains the organiser sponsors: selected stations only, with normal operations and standard charges once those two windows pass; the organiser says the complimentary rides are for all KLSCM 2026 runners, and the organiser does not say that anyone else travels without paying
• If you are heading into the Bukit Bintang area on the morning of 4 October: the Jalan Bukit Bintang / Jalan Raja Chulan / Jalan Sultan Ismail junction is not handed back until 08:00, and Jalan Bukit Bintang / Jalan Sultan Ismail (from the Jalan Tun Razak direction) and Jalan Perak / Jalan Sultan Ismail not until 08:30
