MacBook Pro gets a touchscreen: from RM11,999

Costs RM1,700 to RM2,000 more than the old model; arrives from 6 November 2026.

The cover is built on Apple's official product image: on a black background, a 14-inch MacBook Pro sits in front of a 16-inch one, both screens filled with vertical silver-white light bars. Text: large type on two lines, “MacBook Pro touchscreen” and “from RM11,999”, with a line below reading “RM1,700 to RM2,000 more than the old model, same chip”.

A MacBook Pro you can touch, from RM11,999. Before you upgrade, check one thing: how much the touchscreen adds to the price.

Apple Malaysia opens pre-orders for the new MacBook Pro on 30 October 2026. It has the PROLED XDR Display and an M5 Pro or M5 Max chip, and starts at RM11,999 for the 14-inch and RM14,499 for the 16-inch. Stock arrives from 6 November 2026. Apple says this is the first time the Mac has had touch. Apple Malaysia newsroom

In an office, a short-haired person in a red top points a forefinger at the screen of an open MacBook Pro. The screen shows a gold-and-red 3D model with a column of tools on each side. On the desk are a white wavy vase and a few design sheets; behind are floor-to-ceiling windows and green plants, and on two other desks sit silver iMacs with two people working. What it means for you

Compare like for like, with the same chip and the same configuration. The entry 14-inch M5 Pro costs RM10,299 as the old model and RM11,999 with touch. The 16-inch M5 Pro is RM12,499 against RM14,499. The gap stays the same as you go up the range: RM1,700 on every 14-inch and RM2,000 on every 16-inch.

The old models are still on sale. As of 30 October 2026, the cheapest way into the MacBook Pro range is still the old 14-inch M6 at RM8,299, so the entry price for touch is RM3,700 higher. If touch doesn't excite you, that's the money you keep.

So how does touch work? The sensor is built into the display panel rather than layered on top, and macOS turns taps into clicks, so many existing apps respond to touch straight away. Apple lists apps such as Notion, Canva, Zoom, Microsoft Word, Adobe Lightroom, DaVinci Resolve, Blender and Shapr3D, so video editors, designers and 3D artists will probably benefit first.

If you carry it to class or out on shoots every day, weight and ports matter. The 14-inch M5 Pro weighs 1.38kg, against 1.60kg for the old model with the same chip, so it is 0.22kg lighter. The 16-inch M5 Pro weighs 1.82kg. You also get three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe and a headphone jack.
