Local media reported a Netflix price rise in Malaysia, but Netflix's own help pages didn't agree on the prices.

On the afternoon of 14 September 2026, the English version of Netflix's Malaysia plans page listed the four plans at RM19.90 to RM69.90 a month. The Malay version listed them at RM18.90 to RM62.90, between RM1 and RM7 less per plan. English version: “Plans and Pricing” · Malay version: “Pelan dan Harga”

In the reports from 13–14 September 2026, the new prices match the English help page and the “before” prices match the Malay one. The Star · Lowyat.NET Neither Netflix page said which list was the old one, or when a change would take effect.

What stands out

  • The sign-up page used the English list. On 14 September, Netflix's Malaysian home page, which is in Malay, said “Bermula dari RM 19.90” (from RM19.90), and its FAQ said “Pelan antara RM 19.90 hingga RM 69.90/bulan” (plans from RM19.90 to RM69.90 a month). netflix.com/my
  • RM1 to RM7 more a month, and Basic takes the biggest jump in percentage terms. Taking the Malay list as the “before” prices, as the media reports do: Mobile is up 5.3%, Basic 13.4%, Standard 12.0% and Premium 11.1%. An extra member goes from RM13 to RM14.90, up 14.6%, more than any plan.
  • Over a year, Premium works out RM84 dearer. Standard is RM72 more, Basic RM48 and Mobile RM12.
  • Hoping to drop to a cheaper plan with ads? Malaysia doesn't have one. All four plans are listed as ad-free. The US version of the same page lists “Standard with ads”; the Malaysian version doesn't. US version
  • Mobile, the entry-level plan, is for phones and tablets only. Your phone or tablet needs Android 7, Fire OS 6 or iOS/iPadOS 12 or later, and Netflix says “casting or mirroring from a mobile device is not supported on this plan”.

Malaysian prices, side by side

Prices on the two help pages on the afternoon of 14 September 2026, with the gap between them in brackets. Picture quality, screens at once and download devices were the same on both pages; only the prices differed:

  • Mobile (Mudah Alih in Malay): English RM19.90, Malay RM18.90 (RM1 apart). 480p (SD), one phone or tablet at a time, downloads on one.
  • Basic (Asas in Malay): English RM33.90, Malay RM29.90 (RM4 apart). 720p (HD), one device at a time, downloads on one.
  • Standard: English RM55.90, Malay RM49.90 (RM6 apart). 1080p (Full HD), two devices at a time, downloads on two, room for one extra member.
  • Premium: English RM69.90, Malay RM62.90 (RM7 apart). 4K (Ultra HD) with HDR, four devices at a time, downloads on six, up to two extra members. Netflix spatial audio is listed on this plan only.
  • Extra member: English RM14.90, Malay RM13 (RM1.90 apart), each per month.

Both versions of the page also listed three things that affect your bill:

  • You're billed monthly, on the date you signed up.
  • Depending on where you live, tax may be charged on top of the membership price. The page gave no figure for Malaysia.
  • If your Netflix comes through a package or add-on, plan prices and extra member eligibility may be different.

Common questions

  • I'm already subscribed. When would I start paying more? From the billing date one month after Netflix's price-change email. Netflix says that if your price is changing, it emails you a month before the first billing date at the new price; if you pay through a partner package, the partner sends the notice instead. Netflix's help centre gave no Malaysian date as of 14 September 2026. Netflix Help Center: “Why your Netflix price changed”
  • Can I keep the old price? No. Netflix's help centre says that once a price change is announced, “the new plan prices apply to everyone”. For when you'd start paying it, see the question above. You can change plan at any time, though: at the English page's prices, dropping from Premium to Standard saves RM14 a month, and from Standard to Basic, RM22.
  • How do I check what I'm paying? The payment history in your account shows your billing date and plan price. If you haven't seen a price-change email, Netflix suggests checking that the email address on your account is correct.
  • What's an extra member? A Netflix account is for one household. To share with someone who doesn't live with you, you buy an extra member slot, which needs a Standard or Premium plan. They get their own account, password and profile, and it goes on your bill. They watch on one device at a time, download on one, have a single profile, and have to be in the country where you signed up. Netflix Help Center: “Extra Members”

Where to check the official prices

  • Signing up: Netflix's Malaysian home page, netflix.com/my.
  • The Plans and Pricing article in the help centre: switch languages at the bottom of the page and compare both lists. The /my at the end of the link is the Malaysian version; with no country selected, you may see another country's prices.

Before you subscribe

  • If you want 1080p or two screens at once, start at Standard. 4K with HDR is on Premium only.
  • If you want to watch on a TV, skip Mobile: it's for one phone or tablet at a time.
  • If you're signing up, budget from the English page's list: RM19.90 upwards.
